چکیده

Studies on the seismic response of skewed integral abutment bridges have mainly focused under far-field non-pulse-type ground motions, yet large amplitude and long-period velocity pulses in near-fault motions might significant impacts bridge response. In this study, nonlinear dynamic an (SIAB) pulse far-fault non-pulse type are analyzed considering soil–structure interaction, along with parametric studies skew angle compactness backfill. For analyses, three sets motion records selected based site conditions, corresponding artificial fitted by their acceleration spectra. The results show that generally more destructive than SIABs, but presence backfill will mitigate effects to some extent. Coupling longitudinal transverse displacements as well rotation deck would increase angle, so do internal forces steel H piles. influence be most obvious when is densely compacted.

Seismic Fragility Assessment of Steel SMRF Structures under Various Types of Near Fault Forward Directivity Ground Motions

In this paper, the seismic collapse probability of special steel moment-resisting frame (SSMRF) structures under near fault pulse-like and far fault ordinary ground motions is evaluated through fragility analysis. For this purpose, five sample frames with 3 to 15 stories are designed and imposed to the ground motion excitations with different characteristics. Fragility curves are derived for th...

Selection of Optimal Intensity Measure for Seismic Assessment of Steel Buckling Restrained Braced Frames under Near-Fault Ground Motions

Buckling restrained braces (BRBs) have a similar behavior under compression and tension loadings. Therefore, they can be applied as a favorable lateral load resisting system for structures. In the performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE) framework, an intermediate variable called intensity measure (IM) links the seismic hazard analysis with the structural response analyses. An optimal IM...

Investigation of seismic damage index due to water level changes in reservoir through nonlinear dynamic analysis under Far-Fault and Near-Fault ground motions

In this study, reservoir water level effects on nonlinear dynamic response of concrete gravity dams are investigated. For this purpose, the nonlinear behavior of the dam concrete is captured using the concrete damage plasticity (CDP) on the non associated flow rule assumption. Water in the reservoir is represented by the Lagrangian (displacement-based) fluid finite elements. The program ABAQUS ...

Characteristics of Horizontal and Vertical Near-Field Ground Motions and Investigation of Their Effects on the Dynamic Response of Bridges

Recently, concerning failure of structures due to earthquakes, special investigations of near fault ground motions have been noticed. Hence, in this paper, characteristics of near field ground motions have been considered in horizontal and vertical directions. In this consideration, the record averages have been compared with Uniform Building Code and Eurocode8 spectra in two levels. In additio...
